Movement and positivity through dance

When thinking about this weeks blog topic of movement, the first thing I thought was going to some sort of music or dance event. Originally, I planned on using photos from a small music event I shot on Wednesday, however, as I was leaving a pride event in downtown Greensboro yesterday I ran into these two women dancing in the street and decided to photograph them. I originally decided to photograph them because of their fun nature before later realizing how nice they would look for my motion assignment. Even though some parts of my photos have blurred elements in them, this was not done intentionally although I do feel as though it helps to show motion a little better than if the action was frozen. When I took these photos, I didn’t really have much time to edit my camera settings as it was something I came across as I was walking down the street. In one of our other photo classes we talked a little bit about being patient and waiting for the right opportunity to take specific photos and I think this was one of those times. When looking back at it, I think that its pretty obvious that the movement in my photos is directly tied to the mood of the subjects. The happiness of the subjects in my photos is due to the fact that they are dancing together and simply enjoying life. This photo was also taken just down the street from where there were a few religious street preachers saying negative things about specific religions and about the pride event as well. When considering this, it seems very likely that the two women in my photo walked past those street preachers or at the very least saw them yet chose to ignore them and chose to focus on celebrating themselves instead.
